Chapter 1 – Although males of certain glow-worms don’t light up (including males of the common European glow-worm Lampyris noctiluca), some other glow-worm males do light up. These illuminated males are found in the blue ghost Phausis reticulata, and other glow-worm genera, including Pyrocoelia, Diaphanes, Amydetes, Cratomorphus, and Lamprohiza.
Chapter 2 Notes – Photinus carolinus doesn’t occur in Congaree National Park, South Carolina. Instead, the synchronous firefly seen here is Photuris frontalis, which is common along the southern coastal plain in swamps and forests.
